I was thinking it would be an interesting experiment to use that clear Antfarm Gel stuff or a simular material to put into a "pet hole" type burrowers enclosure so you would be able to clearly see the T...do you guys think it would work?  I don't want to do anything that would harm the T.  I was concerned if it would be comfortable on that as substrate and also moisture levels might be a big problem too...Would love to hear any feedback

Thats a cool idea and fair play to you for being innovative.

Unfortunately those gel products are a nuisance due to the fact that they absorb water through the process of gelatinisation and thus could turn into a sludge which is unpleasant to have to clean up. Basically it turns to a goo and mixes with the substrate.

Pathogenic bacteria can also thrive within it as it is a suitable medium for bacterial growth becuase of the water and starch.

I hadn't thought of it turning into a gigantic mess...let along a breeding ground for bacteria and pests...good points.  So does anybody know where I can get some transparent dirt? LOL

Some owners have made their tarantula make a nest near the side of the cage.

Another option would be an Exo-Terra Reptile Den; http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/reptile_den.php

That reptile den might be too expensive to have in many tarantula enclosures.

You also have to understand that tarantulas dont want to be seen and so they prefer a dark area. Its in their nature to hide away. What sort of tarantula do you want to test this on?

Wow!...that Reptile den looks like a great idea, I'll have to get one and try it out...I didn't have a particular species in mind-I just have several "pet holes" and it bugged me I never got to see them...Like my OBT and my C. fimbriatus to name a couple...Thanks for sharing...I think this will work perfectly for what I was wanting
